ARCME

Advanced real-time condition monitoring for enhanced reliability in electrolyser operation

This project aims to address the critical gap in real-time condition monitoring (RT-CM) of solid oxide electrolyser (SOE) for green hydrogen production. The key challenge lies in developing RT-CM tools for fast and accurate real-time assessment of the state of health for SOE systems.

The ARCME consortium will tackle this barrier by developing novel RT-CM tools based on the dynamic current-voltage responses generated by Dynelectro’s patented AC:DC operation method that is expected to significantly extend life span.

The RT-CM tools is expected to significantly reduce operational costs by enabling predictive maintenance thereby improving efficiency and enhancing system reliability for SOE systems.

The project will achieve this by

  1. Collecting condition measurement data under advanced AC:DC operation and various operating parameters including high-pressure environment
  2. Conducting dynamic multi physics modeling to analyze how the investigated operations influence cell and stack impedances
  3. Developing RT-CM tools based on impedance analysis, equivalent circuit models and measurement data;
  4. Implementation and demonstrating the tools on SOE cell and 5 kW stack systems. Notably, the novel RT-CM tools can be used on existing SOE technology with AC:DC operations, which enables rapid implementation and scaling towards large PtX systems for clean fuel production.
